How to Rearrange Pages in a PDF

Reorder PDF pages by dragging them into place — move a page, reverse a scan, or fix a section that came out in the wrong order.

March 20, 20262 min read

Pages end up in the wrong order more often than anyone admits: a scanner fed the stack upside down, an appendix was merged before the section it belongs to, or a signature page arrived after the fact.

Reordering is visual work, so do it visually rather than by typing numbers.

Reorder pages in three steps

  1. 1Open Organize PDF and add your document. Every page is rendered as a thumbnail.
  2. 2Drag pages into the order you want. You can rotate individual pages here too.
  3. 3Download the reordered file.

Common reordering jobs

ProblemFix
Whole scan is back to frontReverse the page order in one action
Signature page at the end should be at the frontDrag it to position one
Two sections swappedDrag the block of pages, not one page at a time
Some pages sidewaysRotate those pages while you are in the same tool

Reordering a scan that came out reversed

Sheet feeders that pull from the bottom of the stack produce a PDF running from the last page to the first. Every page is correct; the sequence is inverted. Reversing the order fixes the whole document at once and is far quicker than dragging.

A duplex scan fed the wrong way round is a different problem: odd pages ascend while even pages descend. That one needs the pages interleaved rather than simply reversed — check a few page pairs before assuming a plain reverse will do it.

What reordering does not change

Page content is untouched — reordering only rewrites the page tree that says which page comes where. Text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and file size is unchanged.

Printed page numbers, though, are part of the page content. A page that says "7" at the bottom still says "7" wherever you move it. If the printed numbers now contradict the running order, remove them and add page numbers again afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move a page to the front of a PDF?+

Yes — drag its thumbnail to position one. There is no separate "move to front" operation to hunt for.

Does reordering pages reduce quality?+

No. The pages themselves are copied unchanged; only their order in the document changes.

Can I reorder pages on a phone?+

Yes, though dragging thumbnails on a small screen is fiddly. For a long document it is worth waiting until you are at a laptop.

How do I reverse the order of every page at once?+

Use the reverse option rather than dragging. On a long scan it is the difference between one click and a hundred drags.
